Summer news

This summer i have been relishing time in California. The sun is strong and cyanotypes go so fast. I will have images up soon.

I have been working in an internship at the Sylvia White Gallery. We just had an opening on Saturday at it was success. Press release I wrote. The local news paper did an article on the gallery because it just recently opened. Lots of people read it and came. Read why it is unique to open a museum grade gallery in ventura.

We also visited the reborn LA County Museum of Art (LACMA) and enjoyed the new Broad Contemporary wing. It boasted two beautiful Richard Serras and many more works that took my breath away.
Check out what they have got going on in LA.

Joshua will be starting at Claremont Graduate University in September pursuing his MFA. The historic campus is charming and lovely. I visited the village with him last week and what is going on there is pretty exciting. The studios have some nice work happening and I think the program is producing quality. The downtown area there also supports the arts. The packing house hosts the Claremont Museum of Art as well as shops, artists’ live/work studio spaces and galleries. Its pretty exciting.

Enjoying the art scene here in Southern California.

For news in Georgia… Im not there right now but I just sent a piece to be in a group show at De Soto Row Gallery. Some of the graduate students are putting it on. I wont be there for the opening unfortunately, but if you are in town check out the art. Read the announcement.

…still catching up from the fall…

-Bridge Show-

I was in a Chinese painting exhibit at Alexander…Here are some snips from the opening in November.

Fans… Apparently my character calligraphy is so good I could be Chinese! Or so said the visiting artist from Shanghai. But it’s all greek to me…

Overall it was a good turnout, and I got some work out of the exposure from it.

This makes my 3rd show in 2007 (if you aren’t counting Open Studio Night, in which case you would add another)

Open Studio Night..a belated report.

Alexander Hall (painting dept) Open Studio Night was a couple of weeks ago. It is a big opening of the whole building (including every graduate studio) to the public. Its a fun even and it was one of the first times most of my friends from Savannah had all visited my studio. I think overall it was good. I made these handouts for people to take and got some positive feedback. No sales, but I think sales where low on the whole for everyone that night

.travel history all in my hands

anyone that took one got a copy of this drawing on the handouts that I made.

Tonight I have another opening downtown at Dimentions Gallery. Im excited. Will have pictures from that too to follow.

These two works were accepted. It is a perfect opportunity to see them in real life. They dont photograph well.

updates and requests

For anyone who is in the Savannah area tomorrow night, you must come to Alexander Hall Open Studio Night. Its from 5-8 and should be a good time had by all. I know i look forward to it. There will be new stuff up on all the walls and all of the graduate studios will be open to the public. I think Ill make some guacamole too;)

As far as artwork goes… I have ordered some new materials for cyanotypes. A large piece of pre-treated fabric and van-dyke solution to do the same stuff in brown. I will finish the paintings i have started and continue working with variations of the cyanotype process until my review in 3 weeks…we will see what they say about it all then.

I have been searching lately for artists and galleries with which I feel i have a kindred style too. This compilation of information is informative to understanding what is going on in the art world and where my place in it is. It will also be helpful when I start to write my thesis paper down the road. I am going to post links to what I find as I go (for records for me and info for you).

my request:

If you find a current artist (or not current for that matter) that reminds you of my style, subject or media…or a gallery that represents works that seem in line with mine, please post a link in comments to share with me. I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

SCAD represents

Just to let you know. One of my paintings is featured on the SCAD main web page in the ‘image of the moment’ section…flip through and youll see it. I was quite surprised to see my own work staring back at me yesterday. I guess they dont tell you when they do things like that.It may not be that big a deal but its sorta fun. Some undergrad girl from california already emailed me on facebook to tell me that she saw it a really liked it and was pleased to fin that we were from the same place.by the way..it doesnt really look like that..its a really bad repro of it.

Gallery RFD – Far from home

I was recently accepted for an exhibit about travel at Gallery RFD in Swainsboro, GA. Very exciting!

The opening reception is on August 11 from 5-8. I guess they have an art stroll in Swainsboro every second Saturday of the month so it might be cool to go to. .. my art will be there.

Thanks for all of your encouragement. Its great that I am getting my stuff out there and exhibiting.
